The College Doula
Frequently Asked Questions
The first step is to reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (617) 302-7092; from there we set up an introductory meeting with Meg! This 30-minute meeting is ideally with the parent(s) or guardian and the student. This meeting is conducted online or over the phone. Meg will provide an overview of services, answer all of your questions about working with a private college counselor, and share if and how she can expertly help you.

Meg only works with a small number of students each year because she feels a huge sense of responsibility to make sure their process goes well, as she should. There are many ways to approach this process and what Meg is not is a private counselor who works with a large number of families who applies a commoditized set of advice and services to your child. She does not outsource her services, especially those that others think take too much time. And you will never get an email that feels like you just read a “Dear %%FirstName%%and/or %%LastName%%” broadcast for a one size fits most approach.
The College Doula isn’t for everybody. That’s totally OK. But for those families who come here, Meg’s plan is to be all-in for them. Contact Meg for any further questions at email@example.com or call (617) 302-7092 for more information. See what students and families say about working with Meg here.
College is a huge investment, upwards of $320,000 for a four-year education at some of the most popular institutions. Allowing a teenager to apply to any colleges without a solid game plan can be a disaster emotionally, financially and academically. Meg will spend at least 25x more time with your student and their parents than their school counselor can. And, last time we checked, parents would rather spend time doing something else with their teen than worry about the college process that is so different now then when they applied.
The College Doula is similar to a personal trainer who prepares and coaches an athlete for a pinnacle competition. Frankly, students find relating to Meg is easier than with their parents. They are more motivated and thrive when being accountable to Meg, and not Mom or Dad. And parents hire Meg for peace of mind. They understand that they do not have the tools, time or ability to acquire the expertise or passion for the college process while managing their careers, interests, and other family members. It’s a win-win for all.
Ask Meg and she will convince you that the opportunity to partner in a student-centered college search and application process is possibly the best job around. Meg understands the unique challenges of being a teenager in today’s world. Hiring Meg will save you money and time by providing “support that we didn’t even realize we needed” as one parent said.
Ensuring you are doing everything you can for your child and making the best investment for your family will be challenged by the fact that one out of three students who start at four-year private and public colleges and universities in the United States end up transferring. Meg feels that admission “mismatches” can be avoided. Not planning ahead can cost more than families think. Many families overpay for their child’s education so saving money, time, and heartache is at the forefront of Meg’s practice.
Meg recommends signing up as soon as possible which is the industry standard. Many families commit in the second semester of Sophomore (10th) year of high school guaranteeing a spot with Meg come time to apply. Meg offers the SOPHOS-MOROS and Start-UP programs because the earlier a student starts naturally allows Meg the best opportunity to coach, guide, and assist the student more holistically, organically leading to powerfully authored applications and ambitious yet realistic college lists.
In the crowded field of college admissions, the importance of a clear, custom, well-thought-out, and focused admissions strategy — one that fits the academic, social and financial profile of the student — cannot be overestimated. In working with Meg you will most certainly find your path and discover how to stand out! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call (617) 302-7092 for more information.
